What does this short film mean to me?
I really like this as a short film. To me is shows me how a young, even though she's been punished for the bad behaviour of her brother, she still makes the most of it. Even though she's had all her long hair cut off into an unattractive haircut she still makes the most of it and still shows how she can still be glamourous. And also get back at her brother and his friend. The film makes me empathise for the little girl. It physically made me smile as, being a girl, I can imagine how upset she would be, and how she handles her annoyance is adorable. her appearance is obviously very important to her.
Mise En Scene:
From the beginning of the short film I wasn't quite sure what direction it was going to take. However once the theme of appearance is clearer then it becomes apparent that almost everything is related to this theme. For example, Ive is cutting out pictures of glamourous models at the beginning and then when her mother gets angry at her for the glue in her hair she quickly grabs one of the pictures she's cutting. Then later on she puts the stockings on her head and plays with them as though its hair and puts on the lip stick. This shows how she's just trying to make the best of anything she can.
She then fantasises about being older and glamourous with all the boys chasing after her and throwing roses at her, showing what she actually wants.
Shots and Edit:
Right at the beginning there is an extreme zoom on the young girls face and the images she's cutting out. This emphasis' the fact that the most important theme throughout the short film is going to be appearance and the glamourousness of the young girl.
Sound:
The sound at the beginning emphasis massively the sound of scissors, which could be to foreshadow the big affecting part they are going to play later on in the film.
There is very artificial sound throughout the video, however when she turns into the beautiful glamourous women there is very posh glamourous music
