IDEOLOGY OF MY SPECIFIC GENRE
The music genre I am choosing to use is COUNTRY POP.
Country Pop isn't as popular in the UK as it is in the USA due to the routes that America has with the "wild west". Therefore most of the iconic artists within the genre are American. Although obviously because it is the genre country there will be influences of country throughout the genre. However because nearly all country pop artists are American the American lifestyle and views will influence how the video is created and what its about.
The most influential artists within this genre, I would say, are people like Olivia Newton-John and Glen Campbell who were amongst some of the first country pop artists to hit the charts. Country pop hasn't been around for very long and so some of the early artists are still huge players in the industry now.
Classically because the route of country pop is traditional country, you see a lot of queues within country pop music videos that give it away the genre before you even hear it. Generic give aways that a song has a country genre base are things like having the location be in a rural place. Also, it generally has a "feel good", wholesome feel to it. The artists aren't really generically overly attractive people who give off a lot of sex appeal. They tend to be the "all American girl/boy" who the consumer will feel they can relate too.
The songs tend to be about family or relationship because in both of these situations the song can have a feel good factor, or give you something to listen too when your crying. Although I would say what country pop songs are about is quite limited they do offer a broad range of emotions which enables to consumer to relate to the song at any point of there life. This is also another reason why I am not specifically defining the age of my target audience.
Country don't really tend to use many or any special effects or wild editing or remixing. This is because this genre is probably one of the most wholesome out of the lot. It uses very basic and natural mise-en-scene as it is, I'd say, a very pure and has a audience that is very dedicated to its artists. Therefore they don't need outrageous wild colours or lasers or special effects to make the song appealing to the fans.
However this could be one of the reasons why country songs don't become very big. Songs that are played on the television have videos, and part of the reason videos get more views and consequently become more popular is because the video draws the viewer in. Although country songs can stand on their own and don't visuals so make the song interesting, you can't just play a song on TV with nothing appealing to watch, very little people would want to do this.
Country pop music will always be a niche and although is a form of pop music isn't really big in the charts in the UK. Although there are songs of this genre in the top 10 nearly every week in England, people don't really tend to class the songs that get very popular as country pop, rather more as just pop.
